Role Description The Import Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Newark. This role manages sales and end-to-end import and export operations for agricultural commodities, including coordinating international shipments, preparing and reviewing documentation, and ensuring compliance with relevant customs and trade regulations.

The specialist will identify import leads (importers, wholesellers, distributors and manufacturers), build a pipeline, liaise with logistics providers, customs brokers, suppliers, and buyers to track shipments, resolve operational issues, and maintain accurate records in Maalexi’s systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include sales prospecting, monitoring trade flows, verifying documentation against regulatory and contractual requirements, supporting risk and compliance checks, and optimizing processes to improve cost efficiency and turnaround times.

The role also contributes to continuous improvement of trade workflows, provides operational insights to the product and risk teams, and supports internal and external stakeholders with timely shipment and documentation updates.

Qualifications

  • Experience in sales of agrifoods, and its import operations.
  • Knowledge of international trade practices, including International Trade regulations and trade documentation requirements.
  • Ability to manage logistics and supply chain coordination, including shipment tracking, scheduling, and documentation control.
  • Proficiency with digital tools and platforms for trade operations; experience with ERP or trade management systems is an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in agricultural commodities or related sectors is beneficial; a bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, International Trade, or a related field is preferred.
